Naas Driving Test Centre – Routes, Tips and Preparation
The Naas Driving Test Centre is the main test centre in Kildare and attracts learners from across Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow and Laois. It can be quite busy, with multiple driving tests taking place at the same time, but there is generally good parking available compared to other test centres.
During your driving test in Naas, you may be brought onto the outer ring road as well as through the town centre, including Main Street and areas near Naas General Hospital. While Naas is generally less congested than some other test centres, Main Street can present challenges such as double parking, pedestrians stepping out unexpectedly and car doors opening, all of which require strong observation and awareness.

Starting and Finishing Your Driving Test in Naas
Before your driving test begins, you may be asked to reverse into a parking space in the car park outside the test centre. It is often easier to choose a space that allows you to exit more easily at the end of your test.
At the end of the test, you will usually be asked to drive forward into a parking space. If your positioning is not correct, you can adjust by reversing back and correcting the car, but it is essential to carry out proper observation throughout.
Leaving the Naas Driving Test Centre
When leaving the car park, there is a stop sign just before the roundabout. It is essential to come to a complete stop here, as failing to do so can result in an immediate fail.
After the stop sign, you will turn right and immediately approach the roundabout, where you may be required to turn left or right. This can be a challenging section if you are unfamiliar with the layout, so it is important to practise leaving the test centre and navigating this junction in advance.
The prominent features of the Naas Driving Test Routes would be speed bumps, Main Street shopping area and roundabouts. Speed Bumps are classified as hazards and you need to check the mirrors and slow down before each one before building up speed again.
Generally speaking try to go over the “cushion” bumps in 2nd at 20/25kmph and the larger ones which cover the full width of the road in 3rd gear . Aim to slow down gently coming up to it, releasing the brake a few meters before hitting it and then begin to accelerate again once the impact has been made to maintain the speed.
If the speed bumps are far enough apart you can build up into a higher gear before dropping back down to 2nd or 3rd where necessary. Hitting speed bumps too fast is classified as a Grade 2 fault for Hazards and is one of the most common faults on the Naas Driving Test Route.
The Main Street area can be very busy and with numerous hazards to navigate which is why testers will often go that way. Throughout the driving test make sure to use good Mirror – Signal – Position – Speed – Look technique and for each hazard Look – Assess – Decide – Act.
The other unique feature of the Naas Driving Test Routes is the outer ring road. These circumvent the town centre and are a series of roundabouts. Some are 2 lanes and some are 1 so make sure to get the correct positioning or a Grade 2 fault will be given. They never tend to get too busy and with a little practice are not too difficult to handle in comparison to some of the Dublin Test Routes.

Most learners benefit from at least 4 hours of pre-test preparation.
What to Expect from Your Pre-Test Lessons
During your first lesson, we focus on identifying and correcting any driving faults while covering everything you need to know to pass your test. This includes practising key manoeuvres such as reverse around the corner, hill starts and the turnabout.
Your second lesson will typically be a full mock driving test. The instructor will act as the tester and conduct the test from start to finish under real test conditions. There will be no feedback during the test, allowing you to experience what the actual driving test feels like.
After the mock test, you will receive detailed feedback, including whether you would have passed or failed, areas that need improvement, and an explanation of the severity of any faults. This helps you understand what to focus on before your actual test and builds confidence for the day.
